INNORFID

RFID Institute SA., is Africa’s leading vendor-neutral RFID service provider, providing expert professional services to all organizations intending to implement, or simply learn more about RFID.

RFID is not a “plug and play” technology.

It requires careful selection and tuning. Expertise is essential for its successful implementation.

The value that RFID provides to organisations comes from improved processes and how well the technology and processes are integrated with the Enterprise system. Despite the focus on tag costs and product features, fundamental decisions about processes and system design have the greatest impact on the value and return on investment the RFID system provides.

Using experts to manage the system design and implementation is one of the safest and most effective RFID investments a company can make. Research has indicated a strong link between the involvement of specialised RFID service providers such as the RFID Institute and project success.

What is RFID?

Automatic identification uses technology to track and manage items with minimal human intervention. The two primary automatic identification techniques are barcodes and RFID.

RFID

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a system that involves electronic tags containing identification numbers or other data encoded onto an integrated circuit (IC). A device called a reader sends an electromagnetic signal to the tag. Upon receiving the reader’s signal, the tag transmits its code to the reader. By monitoring tag ID’s, the RFID system can track the presence and location of an object as it moves through the organization.

RFID is a combination of radio broadcast and digital coding technology. In digital coding technology, the digital data is encoded on a microchip. RFID uses radio waves to capture the digital data encoded in the microchip without any direct contact with the microchip. Therefore, RFID is used in contact less data transfers such as smart cards.
